To accelerate our growth we are looking for a “Head of Market” to take over the market responsibility for the Netherlands. Your broad business knowledge and working experience ensures that Secret Escapes not only achieves but also exceeds the group growth plan. 

We're looking for an entrepreneurial self-starter who has the ambition and the experience to drive the growth of this territory forward. The role requires plenty of agile and innovative thinking and a ‘can do’ attitude that can turn those ideas into reality through a mix of individual industriousness, excellent motivation of the team and all-round first class execution. 

As the “Head of Market” you will drive demand side projects to accelerate our presence in the Netherlands.

Our ambition as a global leading travel flash-sales-business is to be Number 1 in the Netherlands. Your core responsibility is to hit that goal to allow Secret Escapes Netherlands to become a key contributor to our international success story. Reporting into the General Manager DACH, BeNeLux & Scandinavia in Berlin, you will understand, develop and organize the business in a hands-on way in accordance to the market demands and upcoming situations.

As Head of Market you will understand the local e-commerce and tourism market and also the customers’ requirements. You will develop new business strategies based on data and your market experience. Building on this, you will implement the necessary actions and take measures working together with our local and international supply, marketing and product teams. The local Marketing, CRM- and Project Managers will be in your direct reporting line.

You are expected to understand the market requirements and customer’s needs in order to create an action plan together with the senior management and to then implement the next steps to promote the success story of Secret Escapes. In order to achieve optimal results, you will work alongside our Amsterdam and Berlin based supply teams.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver and exceed the target P&L for the territory
  • Enable the quickest growth in the shortest time possible by setting local strategy based on experience, market research, proposition testing and competitor profiling
  • Ensure a market leading mix of holiday and hotel supply is always available to your members
  • Explore and test territory specific marketing channels not covered by the central team
  • Tenaciously find and leverage local partnerships to grow the widest possible audience
  • Build and manage a growth hacking team who can test and iterate on local solutions

Technical Skills Required

  • Understands territory P&L and how each piece of the operation impacts on it 
  • Understands acquisition marketing strategy and practice, can question intelligently 
  • Understands supply acquisition
  • Thorough understanding of cohort methodology and relevance to the financial model 
  • An understanding of the Ducth travel market and its value chain

  • Leads within the senior team, takes the initiative to raise issues and propose solutions
  • Creates a culture where success is celebrated and underperformance isn’t swept under the carpet but dealt with honestly, openly and fairly

  • Communicates business, team and personal performance on a regular and reliable basis 

 

Role Requirements

  • Will be fluent in English and a native-level Dutch speaker in both your verbal and written skills
  • Ability to analyse large and complex data sets to identify and explain trends
  • Ideally will have experience in the Dutch travel/hotel industry
  • Working internationally with teams across country borders is an asset
  • Hands on and proven experience in leadership and management roles  
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the competitive marketplace in the Netherlands

Profiel

The deal breakers. We are looking for.  

  • Proven leadership skills
  • A proven management success story (min 5 years) in the tourism e-commerce sector in the Netherlands
  • Deep understanding of the tourism market in the Netherlands and Belgium, especially of the customer requirements
  • Experience of at least one of flash sales, e-commerce or online travel business
  • A deep understanding of the Dutch market
  • P&L exposure
  • Expert stakeholder management and cross functional communication skills
  • Experience in quantitative business analysis
